Evenk shaman's costume (back)

This costume was brought back by Joseph Martin in 1887 from the Stanovoi Mountains. It was studied in detail by E. Lot-Falck, 1977: ìLe Costume de chamane toungouse du MusÈe de líHommeî, …tudes mongoles et sibÈriennes 8: 91ñ97, as well as by M.-L. Beffa and L. Delaby, 1999, Festins dí‚mes et robes díesprits, Paris, Publications scientifiques du Museum, pp. 59ñ69. It seems to be the most complete costume we have, but the oldest known costume to date is the one conserved in Gˆttingen, which is now being studied by Gudrun B¸cher..MusÈe du Quai Branly / Museum d'Histoire Naturelle - deposit of the MusÈe de l'Homme.
